Tasting Notes
Showcasing the excellent fruit qualities of pear, grapefruit and granny smith apple, we identified a lovely peppery note on the palate with pronounced acidity. The 2016 vintage of Gruner Veltliner was fermented in stainless steel on lees for a period of no less than 6 months.
Enjoy Me With
The acidity, minerality and fresh zesty citrus notes characterised by a Gruner Veltliner marry well with fatty or rich foods as it cleanses the palate. In this we case we like pork cheek and tongue terrine as part of a charcuterie selection, we like capers, cornichons, a soft triple cream brie from Coal River Valley and an Italian Taleggio DOP - Sunday afternoon in the sun.
About
Family-owned since 1898, the Etz Brothers are now the 4th generation of winemakers. Their 40 hectare holdings are over several renowned sites of the Kamptal Region between Langenlois and Grafenegg. Much like the rest of Austria, the most widely planted variety on the Etz vineyards is Gruner Veltliner. Don't worry if you can't pronounce it, because it tastes incredible and the alternative plantings includes Blauer Zwiegelt which provides an alternative to Pinot Noir and Beaujolais.
