Tasting Notes
For those of you who love Pinot Noir, then this is Austria's take on it - Bright ruby fruit, abundant rich cherry and smatterings of plum leading to a savoury elegant palate and having been matured in both stainless steel and oak ensures lovely freshness.
Enjoy Me With
With the fruit forward style of the wine and low tannins, it pairs incredibly well with fatty savoury and fragrant foods. As such we took some local lamb rump, diced it into large chunks and marinated it in natural yoghurt and Ras El Hanout spices overnight. Threaded this onto skewers and cooked it on a searing hot bbq, this was served with pita breads, hummus and a herb and pomegranate salad. Perfect for a summers lunch and a wine that doesn’t carry a huge punch but has plenty of flavour.
About
Family-owned since 1898, the Etz Brothers are now the 4th generation of winemakers. Their 40 hectare holdings are over several renowned sites of the Kamptal Region between Langenlois and Grafenegg. Much like the rest of Austria, the most widely planted variety on the Etz vineyards is Gruner Veltliner. Don't worry if you can't pronounce it, because it tastes incredible and the alternative plantings includes Blauer Zwiegelt which provides an alternative to Pinot Noir and Beaujolais.
