Tasting Notes

This was the first vintage of Fiano for Mocandunda and as such created great excitement. The fruit was destemmed and fermented in a well seasoned French Oak Hogshead. The wine was then left on yeast lees for a period of 6 months to build richness and texture. On the palate there is aspects of spiced stone fruits, roasted nuts and lemon sherbert and aromatics of preserved lemon, cashew nut, basil and ginger spice are displayed on the nose.

Enjoy Me With

Due to the oak presence and texture from the extended lees contact it ensures a sense of versatility with a range of food choices, which led us to pair it with a Red Snapper Ceviche. We like to get creative - by mixing it all up and leaving it to develop flavours in a sealed glass jar with the following accompaniments:
  • Fresh Lime Juice
  • Red Onion
  • Roasted Red Peppers
  • Red and Green Chilli
  • Olive Oil
  • A truck load of coriander and a good seasoning with sea salt and cracked pepper

Mocandunda pays homage to the Ngadjuri people of the Clare Valley and means rocky outcrop on top of a hill, now it's known for producing fantastic Clare Valley wines. Mocandunda Wines was established in 1998 by Hartley Heinrich, the property’s owner, Roger Ackland, one of Clare Valley’s most experienced viticulturists and founder of Mt Horrocks Wines and Mick Faulkner, a leading South Australian agronomist. All three men have taken this parcel of land and taken it to the next level. A key point of difference is the site location being 450m above sea level ensures a long slow ripening period which gives full fruit characteristics to all of the wines.
