Tasting Notes

A very interesting varietal that is not often seen outside of Italy, unless called by its other name Verdicchio for which it is more well known. Turbiana has a wonderful quality and this version from Cai dei Frati is quite unique. When made, this wine only sees stainless steel, no malo and no oak; only the varietal characters are expressed here.

The ability of this wine to age is incredible. Starting off young as quite tropical, with notes of pineapple, mandarin and white flowers. Apricots and pineapple with bitter almond appear on the palate with a fresh finish. As the wine ages it will develop more savoury, spice and candied fruit characters. I highly recommend grabbing a few, drink some and cellar the rest. It will be well worth seeing the wine develop and change.

Enjoy Me With

Like many Italian wines, this wine requires food. With the Cai dei Frati and specific to the Turbiana varietal, I highly recommend grilled fish, fresh fennel and orange salad dressed with a good quality extra virgin olive oil. Super simple yet it just works.
