Tasting Notes

The Berlucchi '61 Satèn is created as a Blanc de Blanc, made from 100% Chardonnay. Picked late to ensure ripeness, which then spends a minimum of 24 months on lees to create an elegant, rich Sparkling Wine. With lovely stone fruit and white flowers on those, this continues onto the palate which is rich, long and silky smooth with fine bubbles, peaches, apricots and tropical fruits that are long lasting. This stunning example of a Blanc de Blanc oozes elegance. If you are looking for a sparkling wine that is somewhat different to the run of the mill NV Champagne or other Sparkling Wines produced in Australia, this might be right up your alley.

Enjoy Me With

Blanc de Blanc always makes me think of oysters, freshly shucked, served only with lemon. Sometimes you just need something simple to match with your wine, or maybe nothing at all.  What I love about the '61 Satèn is that it's truly an every occasion wine. Enjoy because it's a special occasion, because it's Friday, date night, friends are over or just because it's awesome! I cant think of many reasons not to drink good Sparkling.

I hope you enjoy this wine as much as my fiancé and I did over looking the ocean - Jeremy.

Vineyard in Focus

Berlucchi Franciacorta was the brain child of a young oenologist in the mid 1950’s with the first major production occurring in 1961. These wines are produced with a philosophy of sincere quality for reasonable prices.

What Exactly Is Franciacorta?

Great question! Franciacorta is a designation for premium Méthode Champenoise sparkling wine in the same way as Champagne. It comes from the Province of Brescia in Lombardy, Northern Italy. Much like Champagne, the traditional sparkling production method, a base wine undergoes a secondary fermentation in bottle, on lees (yeast) for a minimum of 18months. Non Vintage Franciacorta must have a minimum 18months on lees, over a minimum of 15months for Champagne. As with Champagne, Franciacorta is made with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. If you want a top quality sparkling different to Champagne, this will be right up your alley. It really is quite remarkable!
