Tasting Notes

So this wine is definitely not made with a grape most people would be familiar with and I will be honest, until I tried this wine I had not come across it before either. The Ciliegiolo, which translates to cherry in English. Interestingly it has a good tannin structure which fills the whole palate, I guess its a bit like a Pinot on steroids.

This wine underwent partial carbonic maceration, with another component seeing brief skin contact. The result is bright, pretty fruit on the nose with a palate of fresh cherry and raspberry, that is also quite floral.

Enjoy Me With

Cured meats are on obvious choice for this wine, or cheeses that have been aged such as my favourite the Taleggio DOP. Other great choices would be slow cooked meats like lamb shanks or a game meat ragu with peppered pasta.

Great with food, highly recommend, have fun.

Vineyard in Focus

The Motta family have been growing grapes and making wine on their vineyard 'La Tartaruga' since 1987. It is located in the coastal area of Maremma, in the South West of Tuscany, with a fantastic set of conditions including soil type, microclimate, sun and wind exposure. Combine this with an environmentally friendly approach to farming and you are rewarded with wines that are very unique to the area. It really is a stunning coastal region, providing a mild climate that aids in the production of excellent wines and Motta displays an absolutely perfect example of this.
